This chest of drawers comes from Sweden and is a beautiful example of functional, mass-produced furniture from the 1970s.
The body is designed as a simple rectangular block, with four equally sized drawers structuring the front. The characteristic recessed metal handles, square in shape with a circular recess, are striking, emphasizing a slightly Scandinavian mid-century character.
The surface is covered with a pinewood veneer, recognizable by its warm, honey-colored hue and the distinct annual ring structure typical of pine. The sides, top panel, and fronts are evenly veneered, revealing a clear, calm grain. The interior is made of particleboard, which was common in industrial mass production at the time to reduce material costs while simultaneously achieving a high-quality appearance with real wood veneer.
On the back is an original manufacturer’s sticker embossed with “Made in Sweden,” the dresser number 319784, and the company logo ASM (an abbreviation for Swedish furniture manufacturers of the time, presumably “AB Svenska Möbelfabriken”).
Condition: The dresser is in good, sturdy condition with an authentic patina. The pine veneer is largely clean and intact, but shows minor scratches and light pressure marks in places due to use. A visible scratch mark in the veneer is visible on one drawer front. The handles display an age-appropriate patina with fine traces of oxidation, yet remain stable and functional. Overall, an authentic vintage dresser with beautiful Scandinavian character.
Dimensions: L79.5 x W40 x H72 cm
