Founded in 1945, ÚĽUV was established to preserve and promote traditional Czech and Slovak folk art and craftsmanship. Throughout the mid-20th century, the company collaborated with renowned designers and artisans, creating homeware and furniture that blended modernist aesthetics with deep respect for local tradition.
This table is a fine example of that vision. Its tabletop is cut from a single, solid piece of oak, retaining a gently organic, flowing outline that celebrates the natural character of the wood. The warm honey-brown tones, expressive grain, and striking natural markings ensure that no two pieces are ever alike.
Supporting the top are four solid oak legs, tapered and angled in true Mid-Century Modern style. The clean geometry of the legs contrasts beautifully with the irregular, sculptural top that stretch from 33 to 43 cm, creating a perfect balance between modern design and organic form. The proportions are elegant and versatile: ideal as a side table for books, flowers, or decorative objects, yet equally suited for serving coffee or tea. with over 60 years of history, the table still radiates authenticity, craftsmanship, and quality, enhanced by the gentle patina that only time can create.
The piece is in excellent vintage condition with minor surface wear consistent with age and a small chip to one corner – both of which add character without detracting from its beauty or function.
A striking example of Czechoslovak Mid-Century Modern design, this side table is both a functional object and a piece of design history.
